Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run the site: your email (if you register/subscribe), your reviews and comments, and standard anonymous analytics.
- We never sell your personal information. Ever.
- We don't use affiliate links — our recommendations are never tied to commissions.
- You can delete your account and data anytime by contacting us.
What we collect
- Account data: username, email, and a securely hashed password (we never see or store your actual password).
- Content you create: reviews, comments, questions, answers, review photos, and business listings you submit. Published content shows your username publicly.
- Newsletter: your email address, used only for the newsletter you asked for. One-click unsubscribe in every email.
- Price alerts: your chosen product and target price, tied to your account.
- Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) used for security and performance. We use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics where possible.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies (keeping you logged in, remembering dark mode, and CSRF protection). We do not use third-party advertising trackers. If we add any analytics cookies, this page will say so and you can opt out.
How we fund the site
Tech Hub Nerd is a reader-supported publication. We don't take commissions from retailers, and we don't run third-party ad trackers. That means our only incentive is being useful to you — recommendations are never tied to sales. See our testing methodology for how reviews stay independent.
Your rights (US states with privacy laws, and everyone)
- Access & correction: see and edit your data on your profile.
- Deletion: email us via the contact page with the subject "Data deletion" and we'll remove your account and associated data within 30 days.
- California (CCPA): you have the right to know, delete, and opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We don't sell data — nothing to opt out of — but the rights stand regardless.
- Children: Tech Hub Nerd is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Data security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, all database queries use prepared statements, uploads are type-validated, and PHP execution is disabled in upload directories. No method is 100% secure, but we follow industry-standard practices and will disclose any breach affecting your data promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll note the update date above and announce significant changes in the newsletter. Questions? Contact us.
