Printer Buying Guide: Inkjet vs Laser vs EcoTank
1. The sticker price is the wrong number to compare
A $60 inkjet printer can easily cost more over two years than a $300 laser printer, once you add up replacement cartridges. Always check the cost-per-page for both black and color before buying.
2. Which type fits your actual printing habits?
- Laser: best if you print mostly text/documents and want the lowest cost-per-page for black and white.
- Inkjet: best if you print photos or need vivid color occasionally.
- EcoTank/refillable ink: best if you print a lot of everything — tanks cost more upfront but cut running costs dramatically.
3. Don't ignore duty cycle
A printer rated for 5,000 pages/month pushed to 20,000 will wear out fast. Match the duty cycle to your real volume.
