How to Print a Document: The Basics
From any app
- Press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac), or use the File menu's Print option.
- Confirm the correct printer is selected — if you have more than one saved, double-check before printing a large job.
- Set your page range if you don't need every page — printing "all" by accident on a 40-page PDF is a common paper-waster.
- Check paper size matches what's actually loaded in the tray (Letter is the US default; A4 is common for documents from outside the US).
- Click Print.
If nothing happens
- Check the printer is powered on and connected — a Wi-Fi printer that reconnected to a different network won't show as available.
- Check for a paused print queue (Windows: Settings → Printers & Scanners → your printer → Open print queue).
- Restart the printer if it's been idle for a long time — printers sometimes drop their network connection after extended sleep.
